Those that want to debate but don't want to allow for the conversation to go freely are not worthy of a vote.

WASHINGTON - Democrats vying to challenge U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum have agreed to two debates next month, although it remains unclear on which topics they'll touch.

Challengers to state Treasurer Robert P. Casey Jr. said he agreed to an April 8 debate at Slippery Rock University only if abortion rights and stem-cell research are off the table.

Mr. Pennacchio, who, unlike Mr. Casey, supports abortion rights, said he made a mistake.

He misunderstood a conversation between his debate negotiator and an organizer of the Slippery Rock debate, Lou Hancherick. He thought Mr. Hancherick had told his negotiator that the Casey campaign wanted to exclude the topics while it was Mr. Hancherick who questioned the need to discuss them, Mr. Pennacchio said.

“This is my bad,” he said. “It was a sincere misunderstanding.”
